一、系列简介

“新一课文仿写英译”系列以《新概念英语1》中所有72篇单课的课文内容为参照，仿写课文主要是对话或短文，一方面在课文主题内容上模仿课文原文，另一方面在重点词汇、句型和语法等的运用上与课文原本保持一致。因此，大家使用本练习时，要事先熟悉巩固每篇课文原文的主题内容和语言知识重点，然后在英译仿写对话或短文时，尽量采用课文原文中相应的表达，这样就可以起到更好的复习巩固作用了。

本课学习的是过去进行时的用法。

1、构成方式

was/were doing。

2、基本用法

表示过去某个时刻或时段正在进行的动作，如：

He was playing football at school this time yesterday.

They were working in the garden from three to five yesterday afternoon.

He was playing football at school this time yesterday.

3、when与while

两者都可以用来连接表过去的时间状语从句，表示“当...时候”，但是when所在的从句及其主句的谓语动词既可以采用瞬间动词（采用一般过去时），也可以采用持续动词（采用过去进行时），但是while所在的从句的谓语动词一般都是持续动词（采用过去进行时），而其主句则既可以是瞬间动词，也可以是持续动词，如：

When he was working in the garden, she was reading in the living room.

While he was working in the garden, she was reading in the living room.

When he came in, she was reading in the living room.

While she was reading in the living room, he came in.

When he was working in the garden, she was reading in the living room.

While he was working in the garden, she was reading in the living room.

When he came in, she was reading in the living room.

While she was reading in the living room, he came in.

（三） 中文仿写

昨天下午我走进客厅时，把一些玻璃球掉在地上了。

到处都是玻璃球。我和妹妹虽然找了，但没能把它们全部找到。

当我们正在吃晚饭时，我们的小狗亨利在沙发底下发现了两个玻璃球。它把两个玻璃球都吞了下去。

晚饭后亨利一直叫了两个小时，于是我们把它送到医院去了。
